NEW JERSEY STATE BAR FOUNDATION TO SPONSOR FREE SEMINAR ON SUCCEEDING WITH A NEW BUSINESS

            A free public seminar, Starting and Succeeding with a New Business, will be held Wednesday, March 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square off Ryders Lane, New Brunswick. The seminar is sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the educational and philanthropic arm of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

          In these difficult economic times, many enterprising people are looking to be their own bosses and start their own businesses. The goal of this program is to help the new entrepreneur by highlighting the keys to success and the trouble spots to avoid.

          Barry Bendes, a partner in the New York City and Madison, NJ, offices of Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge, LLP, and David Greenbaum, a senior associate in the Intellectual Property department of EAPD, will discuss the nuts and bolts of starting a new business, including choosing the form of entity, planning for success, developing a concept into an effective business plan, raising capital and financing a new business, hiring and firing issues, and resources available to the startup in New Jersey. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentations.

          Mr. Bendes graduated cum laude from Queens College, City University of New York, and received his law degree from New York University School of Law, where he was research editor of Review of Law and Social Change. Barry is the past Chair of the Business Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, serves on its Board of Directors, and is a member of the association's Computer and Internet Law Committee. Mr. Bendes is also active in the American Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.  A frequent speaker on business and commercial topics, he was previously secretary and general counsel of Emerson Radio Corp. and senior vice president-operations of its computer and software subsidiaries.

           Mr. Greenbaum graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and received his law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, where he was an

editor of the Arts & Entertainment Law Journal.   He counsels clients in all aspects of trademark, patent, design, copyright and unfair competition law, including acquisition of rights, licensing, due diligence, worldwide portfolio management and counseling.  David is licensed as an attorney to practice in New Jersey and New York, and as a registered patent attorney with the US Patent and Trademark Office.   He is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Trademark Association. 

          Free copies of Starting and Succeeding with a New Business: A Primer for the New Entrepreneur, written by Barry Bendes and published by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, will be available free of cost to those who attend the seminar.
