Gwendolyn Yvonne Alexis


            Gwendolyn Yvonne Alexis has been reappointed as a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting law-related education and giving all New Jersey residents a basic understanding of the legal system.

 

            The lead professor for the undergraduate business ethics requirement at the Leon Hess Business School, Monmouth University, Alexis is also an active member of the New Jersey, New York and Florida bar associations.  Her part-time law practice is devoted to handling complex estates and trusts.  Prior to opening her own law firm, she served as the legal affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Denmark, taught contracts and securities regulation at Suffolk University Law School and worked as a corporate securities lawyer in both the private and public sectors.

 

            An appointee of Gov. Jon Corzine, Alexis is serving as one of three commissioners constituting the New Jersey Corporate and Business Law Study Commission.  She is also a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey District XB Ethics Committee for West Morris and Sussex Counties.  Additionally, Alexis serves as a trustee on the boards of Assumption College for Sisters in Mendham, NJ, and the Yale Club of Central New Jersey, Inc. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California (B.S. degree in business), Harvard Law School (J.D. degree), Yale University Divinity School (master's degree in ethics) and the New School for Social Research (Ph.D. in sociology and historical studies).

 

            She resides in Chester with her husband Erik Carlsson.
