Kevin P. McCann

McCann reappointed trustee of state bar foundation

Kevin P. McCann, co-founder of the Bridgeton law firm of Chance & McCann, has been reappointed a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting law-related education and giving all New Jersey residents a basic understanding of the legal system. He is also President-Elect of the New Jersey State Bar Association and slated to assume the NJSBA presidency in 2012.  At that time he will become the first NJSBA president from Bridgeton in the nearly 100 years since Walter H. Bacon, Esq., was president back in 1919.

 

An NJSBA member since 1975, Mr. McCann served on the association's Board of Trustees from 2000 to 2006 and is a member of the Taxation Law Section, Civil Trial Bar Section adn Criminal Law Section. He is the current co-chair of the Task Force on Disaster Planning, an initiative launched by 2006-2007 president Wayne J. Positan to address planning for law firms in the event of a disaster. The task force has completed a planning guide available on the NJSBA website (www.njsba.com) that is being used as a model by the American Bar Association and Maryland State Bar. In March 2007 the task force held a Disaster Summit with regional bar leaders to address the needs of the legal community.

 

Mr. McCann is a past president of the Cumberland County Bar Association and also served on the Board of Trustees of L.E.G.A.L. from 1988 to 1991. A member of the Association of Trial Lawyers, Mr. McCann served on the association's New Jersey Branch Board of Governors from 1982 to 1996. He is a member of the American Bar Association and has been a member of the Mandatory Automobile Arbitration Panel since 1985.

 

His community involvement includes service on the Cumberland County College Board of Trustees, as President and on the Board of Trustees of the South Jersey Drug Treatment Center and on the Board of the Alumni Association of Widener Law School. He was a member of the Judicial and County Prosecutor Selection Committee from 1992 to 2000.  A former prosecutor, Mr. McCann is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a certified trial attorney, a certified trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is a member of the Statewide Mediation Program for Civil, General Equity and Probate Cases.

 

Mr. McCann is admitted to U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals-Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. A graduate of Monmouth University and Delaware Law School of Widener University, he received his LLM in tax from Temple University School of Law.

 

Mr. McCann resides in Upper Deerfield Township with his wife, Sheila. They have two daughters:  Shanna McCann, a member of the law firm of Chance and McCann who oversees the Woodstown office, and Kristin McCann, DVM.  The McCanns are also summer residents of Ocean City, New Jersey.
