The New Jersey State Bar Foundation presents a free public seminar on Buying and Selling a Home on Thursday, December 4, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square (off Ryders Lane) in New Brunswick.
Among the topics of discussion are the contract of sale, types of ownership such as tenancy in common and joint tenancy, mortgage contingency, the home inspection clause and title insurance.
Speakers include Erwin Apell and Jeffrey Apell, attorneys with extensive experience in real estate law. A question-and-answer period will follow their presentations.
Erwin Apell, a partner in the Browns Mills law firm of Apell & Detrick, is a member and past chairman of the Board of Consultors of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the New Jersey Bar Association. President of the New Jersey Association of Real Estate Attorneys, he has been practicing law in the state for more than 45 years, with a concentration in real estate transactions, tax sale foreclosures, real estate Chancery practice, probate, land use and business matters. Mr. Apell has written articles on real estate topics for the Real Estate, Probate Trust Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, local newspapers and New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He has been retained as an expert on numerous real estate, title, banking and legal ethics matters throughout New Jersey. A graduate of Widener University, he received his law degree from Case-Western Reserve University School of Law.
A partner in the law firm of Apell & Detrick, Jeffrey Apell is a former trustee of the Burlington County Bar Association. He received the Robert W. Criscuolo Award from that organization in recognition of his dedication and service to the Bar Association and community. He is a frequent lecturer for such organizations as the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Burlington County Bar Association. A graduate of Lafayette College, he earned a law degree from the Widener University School of Law.
