A noted family law practitioner will explain the intricacies of adoption law and related issues in a public seminar on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 7-9 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square off Ryders Lane in New Brunswick. The program is sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and is open to everyone. Admission is free but advance registration is required.
Roseland lawyer Toby Solomon, designated by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Matrimonial Attorney, has been involved with adoption law since 1984. She will discuss such topics as adoption choices (international, agency, private, open), navigating the adoption process from step one, adult adoptions, stepparent adoptions, grandparent adoptions, same-sex adoptions, terminating birth parents' rights, lawyer involvement and other important issues relevant to adoption.
Ms. Solomon's practice is devoted to family law, specifically matrimonial, custody and adoption matters. A distinguished member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, she co-founded and chaired the Academy's Children's Rights Section and has been certified as an Adoption Mediator by the Academy. She also founded and chaired the Adoption Subcommittee of the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) for 11 years. Her work on the resultant amendments to existing adoption legislation earned her the NJSBA Distinguished Legislative Service Award in 1993. She was appointed to the Committee on Character by the New Jersey Supreme Court and is a Master in the New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court.
Recently designated as an Angel in Adoption by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, Ms. Solomon teaches and writes extensively and is a senior editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer. She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University, master's degree from Columbia University, and graduated cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law.
