ADOPTION BROCHURE JOINS FAMILY OF STATE BAR FOUNDATION PUBLICATIONS
Thinking of expanding your family through adoption? If you have done any homework at all, you likely know that bringing a child into your life involves a dizzying array of choices and steps. What You Need to Know About Adoption, the newest addition to the New Jersey State Bar Foundation's cadre of helpful, law-related guides for the public, can help take some of the mystery out of the arcane process, make it a little less daunting and set you in the right direction.
What You Need to Know About Adoption, written by Roseland attorney Toby Solomon, covers such vital topics as open adoption, birth parents' rights, birth father consent, missing parent, terminating birth parents' rights, grandparent adoption, adoption agencies, private adoption, foreign adoption, step-parent adoption, single-parent adoption, same-sex adoption, child consent, changing one's mind, adoption records, lawyer involvement and general adoption law in New Jersey.
Ms. Solomon's practice is devoted to family law, specifically matrimonial, custody and adoption matters. Designated by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Matrimonial Attorney, she has been involved with adoption law since 1984. A distinguished member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, she co-founded and chaired the Academy's Children's Rights Section and has been certified as an Adoption Mediator by the Academy. She teaches and writes extensively and is a senior editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer.
The adoption pamphlet is made possible by funding from the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey. Other helpful publications from the Bar Foundation include A Basic Guide to Personal Bankruptcy, Starting and Succeeding with a New Business, Law Points for Senior Citizens (second edition) and Disability Law Primer (fifth edition).
All Foundation publications are free and may be ordered in single copies or bulk quantities by law firms, schools, agencies and organizations. Orders may be placed directly through the Foundation's website at www.njsbf.org or by calling 1-800-FREE LAW.
Founded in 1958, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation is the educational and philanthropic arm of the New Jersey State Bar Association. The Bar Foundation's mission is to promote public understanding of the law through a free, comprehensive public education program. Among its activities, the Foundation conducts seminars and conflict resolution training, publishes materials, operates a
videotape loan library and speakers bureau, and coordinates elementary, middle and high school mock trial competitions. For more information about the Foundation's programs and publications, visit online at www.njsbf.org or call 1-800-FREE-LAW.
