MOCK TRIAL WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS OFFERED BY STATE BAR FOUNDATION
The New Jersey State Bar Foundation will sponsor free mock trial workshops for elementary, middle and high school teachers in October at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, NJ.
The Foundation's Law Fair/Law Adventure Workshop for teachers of grades 3-8 will be held on Thursday, October 15, 9 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Teachers will learn about the elements of a mock trial, participate in a mock trial exercise and find out how to enter the Foundation's Law Fair Competition for grades 3-6 and Law Adventure Competition for grades 7 and 8.
The Foundation's High School Mock Trial Workshop for teachers and attorney-coaches will be conducted on Thursday, October 29, 9 a.m.-1:10 p.m. Speakers will explain the contest structure and judging process. Students will enact the new case for 2009-2010, State of New Jersey v. Loren Perry, which deals with kidnapping. The Hon. Bradley J. Ferencz, Superior Court, Middlesex County, will preside over the trial.
The mock trial programs help to fulfill New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standard 6.2 for democratic citizenship. Teachers attending the workshops will receive professional development credit hours.
