Media Advisory Update: Press Invited to Bar Foundation's High School Mock Trial Northern and Central NJ Regional Competitions

Media Advisory: PRESS INVITED TO BAR FOUNDATION'S HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITIONS AT THE NEW JERSEY LAW CENTER

On Tuesday, February 23, county title winners from high schools in the northern and central areas of the state will compete for their respective regional championships in the exciting Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition. County winners in the Southern Regionals competed last week.

The media are encouraged to cover these very special days in court when enthusiastic teenagers will try a fictitious criminal case before New Jersey judges and attorneys at the New Jersey Law Center, located off Ryders Lane in New Brunswick.

In the mock trial case to be tried, Loren Perry is accused of kidnapping 12-year-old Bailey Reynolds and is also charged with criminal restraint and false imprisonment.

Contests begin at 10 a.m. and should conclude between 4 and 5 p.m. on February 23.

The Central Regional county winners are as follows: Burlington, Network of Independent Christian Home Educators; Hunterdon, Hunterdon Central Regional High School; Mercer, Marshall Academy; Middlesex, North Brunswick Township High School; Monmouth, Colts Neck High School; Somerset, Mount Saint Mary Academy; and Union, Oratory Prep.

The Northern Regional county winners are as follows: Bergen, Bergen Catholic High School; Essex, Livingston High School; Hudson, McNair Academic High School; Morris, Mendham High School; and Sussex, Kittatinny Regional High School. Note: Passaic's county champion will not be determined until Feb. 20, and Warren County's champion, Warren Hills Regional High School, had to withdraw due to a date conflict.

The annual Vincent J. Apruzzese High school Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the educational and philanthropic arm of the New Jersey State Bar Association, in cooperation with New Jersey's county bar associations.

Photographers can expect some great photo opportunities. If you plan to cover the mock trials, please contact Ellen Dweck at 732-937-7523.
