Biographies

"The Four Justices of New Jersey" - This half-hour videotaped television program dramatizes the historical significance of the contributions of Justice William Paterson (1793-1806), Justice Joseph Bradley (1870-1892), Justice Mahlon Pitney (1912-1922) and Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., (1956-Present). Originating from the historical setting of the House of Morven, this program is hosted by former Governor Richard J. Hughes and Elizabeth Defeis of Seton Hall University School of Law. Appropriate for grades 7-12 and adult audiences.

"Mr. Justice Brennan" - A visit with the former Justice of the Supreme Court, who has been called America's "most unyielding defender of individual rights." Appropriate for grades 9-12 and adult audiences. (58 minutes)

"The Public Life and Times of Richard J. Hughes" - A documentary based on a wide-ranging interview with "Caucus: New Jersey" anchor Steve Adubato at former Governor Hughes' home in Lawrenceville. Richard Hughes has had one of the most distinguished careers in public service of any New Jersey citizen. After serving as Governor through the turbulent decade of the 1960's, Hughes went on to serve as Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court from 1970-79. Highlights include Governor Hughes' role in the 1967 Newark riots, the state income tax, the Karen Ann Quinlan decision and his participation in national politics. Appropriate for grades 7-12 and adult audiences. (30 minutes)
